Weekly Bulletin: Staying connected as a church - 10 December 2023

Kia ora St John’s whānau,

This week we celebrate the Second Sunday of Advent, with the St J’s Kids Nativity Pageant and Communion.

All ages remain together for the whole service.

The Youth Band will lead us in singing.

We will celebrate Grace (our Youth Worker), and Jemma (our Youth Intern) as they conclude in their roles and embark on their next adventure.

And we will bless the Christmas Star Boxes as we share love and joy with children in Wellington.

If you can’t gather in the city, and you want to join the worship service via Zoom, here are the details to access the live-stream:

OTHER THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT…

CHRISTMAS IN THE COURTYARD

Tomorrow (Friday 8th Dec) is Christmas in the Courtyard from 5:00-8:00pm.  And the weather forecast is looking great – an answer to prayer!
There will be choirs, brass bands, crafts, food and lots of fun. Proceeds from the event will go to DCM and their work supporting our city’s most marginalised people.
This is an opportunity to share the joy of Christmas with our city neighbourhood!

CHRISTMAS STAR BOXES

This Sunday is the final opportunity to make a gift into the Christmas Star Boxes.
Please bring something unwrapped for children in the Wellington area.
Wellington City Mission will be distributing them again and we are invited to give new gifts that will delight children who perhaps will not be receiving very much.

CONCERT IN THE CHURCH

‘Buzzing Brass’ (Wellington's Junior Brass Band who are playing for Christmas in the Courtyard) will present their end of year concert.
St John's on Sunday 10th December at 1pm.
All are welcome. Free admission!

CAROLS WITH THE ANGELS @ ST MARY OF THE ANGELS

Join the Cuba St Salvation Army Brass Band, Wellington Young Voices, and the musicians of St Mary’s for a carol concert at St Mary of the Angels.
Wednesday December 13th, 7pm. Free entry, all welcome.

CWS CHRISTMAS APPEAL

We are dedicating our offering of money on Christmas Day (once again) to Christian World Service whose annual appeal is working to Share Food This Christmas.
There will be special envelopes provided during the Christmas Day service to make a donation; you can put your details on the envelope to receive a receipt from CWS.

May our hearts be open to the coming of Christ.
