Services

Sunday Schedule:
We invite you to join with us for the Sunday Worship Services which are held each Sunday at 10:00 am.

Special Service Details   Click here for details of any forthcoming special services.

The morning service tends to follow a traditional format, with the children and youth going out to their programmes after the second hymn or song.  Most services have a blend of traditional hymns and contemporary songs. There are a choir and a contemporary singing group.  About once every 6 to 8 weeks there is an all-age worship service, which involves the young people, and is multi-media in style.  Following the service, tea and coffee are served in the foyer, to which all visitors are warmly invited. Most Sundays, the morning congregation numbers between 180 and 230 people.

Evening services are held occasionally, sometimes with a youth flavour.

Free parking is available by arrangement.  Please contact the church office.

Options for parking during services are as follows:

Underground parking is available for parishioners to use during services, - primarily for the elderly and infirm or those with small children. Please note that parking spaces 4, 5, 9 and 10 are to be kept free at all times, including Sundays. The organist’s carpark, no 16, is solely for the use the organist at all times.

The parking building in Willis Street , just down from the Abel Tasman

Hotel is now open on Sundays from 9.00 am. This is a convenient location for St John’s .

DB Carpark : we have negotiated free-of-charge Sunday parking with DB. Their offices are at 119-125 Ghuznee St and between approximately 10.00 am and 12.00 noon on Sundays, St John’s parishioners may use eight of the ten labelled car parks along the side of the DB building. We are asked to leave two of these parks free for DB employees, and not to use the street front DB carpark. People taking advantage of this offer should place a small notice in their windscreen, identifying themselves as St John’s parishioners.

Parking in the church grounds is also available on a “first come, first served” basis. Please do not double-park in the area alongside the church, parallel to Willis St , as this area enables pedestrian access to the church doors for those with mobility problems who cannot manage the stairs to the courtyard to gain access by that route.

Monday-Saturday: Please consult the church office if you require a

parking space at any time during the week. Generally, we can provide one. By directing you to a space we know is not in use, we can avoid potential

conflict with those who have prior parking arrangements with us.

Trouble with hearing?

1   If you have a hearing aid which can be “T” activated please sit where the hearing loop will assist. The hearing loop is installed in the back left-hand section of the pews - it covers that section down to the first pole on which you can see a sign “ Hearing loop: T activated.” The hearing loop does NOT work in any other   section of the church.

2   If your hearing aid is NOT “T” activated the hearing loop will not be of any help to you.

3   The sound system has been checked this week. Each speaker is balanced for clarity and you should not be able to tell if the speakers near you are on. You should simply be able to hear.

4   If you cannot hear please indicate immediately so we can do what   we can to help you from the beginning of the service. An usher or elder is always available to check with the person on sound duty upstairs.

5   Often our hearing is helped by seeing the mouth of the speaker. If you do not need to use the hearing loop but are still having trouble with your hearing please sit in the centre front of the church where you will be able to see clearly.

Communion Services:
Communion is celebrated at both services on the second Sunday in March, June, September and December.  In addition, Evening Communion services fall on the first Sunday of each month at 7pm except January.

A Note for Parents:

During morning worship we offer a free Creche facility in the chapel so that parents can participate in the service knowing that their children are well looked after.  Sunday School operates during school terms during morning services.
