Below are some of the house groups currently operating at St John’s. Feel free to come along to a meeting or two to see if it’s right for you before you commit to any.
Meets Thursday (fortnightly) from 7.30 am – 8.30 am in the St John’s Centre. Great food, great fellowship and great discussions. For more information and to register your attendance (for catering purposes) please email Rev Stuart Simpson or call him on 385 1546.
Wine and Theology
This discussion group gathers the first Friday of every month in the St John’s Office lounge, starting at 7:30 pm. We meet for an informal wine-tasting and then discussion of some current topic of theological or cultural interest, usually finishing by about 9:00 pm . All are welcome. If you have questions please contact the Church office, or Lesley and Malcolm Shaw.
English as Second Language (ESL) Study Group
Meets every fortnightly on a Thursday in the St John’s Office Lounge from 6.00 – 7.30 pm . All welcome to participate in this Bible Study group – particularly those from non-English speaking cultures. You are assured of a warm welcome and a supportive and caring time together. For more information please contact Stuart Simpson on 385 1546 .
Monday Evening Home Group
We meet on Mondays, except holiday weekends, usually at 11 Lewer St, Karori. A number of us meet for tea at about 7.00 pm. This is usually Chinese or similar for $6 each (please ring Carol on 938 0122 so that we have numbers for catering). If you prefer, the study part of the evening starts about 7.30 pm and we aim to finish the study by 9.00 pm. The evening ends with a light supper. The group is a wide mixture of ages. The studies are usually from a series such as Intervarsity but we also do book review studies and occasionally, videos. Visiting speakers get added to this mix. We also like our fellowship times, so we meet for special events – midwinter dinners, Guy Fawkes parties and summer barbeques are regular social occasions. Email Karori home group or contact Margaret or David Galt for details. Everyone is welcome, from students to retired people.
No Longer Tuesday Home Group
You are always welcome at this group which now meets every second Monday at various homes around the city. Please contact Paul or Louise Ramsay for more information.
Other Groups and Opportunities
Other groups form and operate occasionally. St John’s also arranges periodic lectures.
Individual study opportunities are also available through the Church library (resources can be found in the Church foyer).
