Parking Options

Free parking is available by arrangement for those with particular needs.  Please contact the Church Office on 385 1546.

Parking during services

Underground parking is available for parishioners to use during services.  These are primarily for the elderly and infirm or those with small children. Please note that parking spaces 4, 5, 9 and 10 are to be kept free at all times, including Sundays. The organist’s carpark, no 16, is solely for the use the organist at all times. The garage is open 30 minutes before the service and will be closed 30 minutes after the service has finished. Please note that a security swipe card will be needed to enter the garage outside of these times.

Parking in the church grounds is also available on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. Please do not double-park in the area alongside the church, parallel to Willis St , as this area enables pedestrian access to the church doors for those with mobility problems who cannot manage the stairs to the courtyard to gain access by that route.

The parking building in Willis Street, just down from the Abel Tasman Hotel is now open on Sundays from 9.00 am. This is a convenient location for St John’s.

Previously we were able to use some of the carparks at DB House, 119-125 Ghuznee St.  However, this building has now been sold, and after discussion with the new owner and the tenants, the parks used by St John’s on a Sunday are no longer available. Unfortunately, St John’s is not able to guarantee that the new tenants of the building will not have cars towed so if you have used these parks in the past please make other arrangements.

Parking during the week

Limited parks are available on the church grounds, with priority given to people with disabilities and meeting organisers. Parks are available on a ‘first-come, first-serve’ basis. See the Church Office for availability and to register your car if you are hiring one of the rooms in the St John’s Centre.

Please consult the office if you require a parking space at any time during the week from Monday to Saturday. Generally, we can provide one for a couple of hours. By directing you to a space we know is not in use, we can avoid potential conflict with those who have prior parking arrangements with us.

Please let us know if you park on the church grounds so that we do not tow your car away!  If you are a member of St John’s, you can get a sticker for your car window from the Church Office to indicate this.

Also note that parking on Thursday mornings during term time is at a premium because of Music & Movement.

The parking building in Willis Street, just down from the Abel Tasman Hotel is another convenient location for St John’s.
