Church Government
The government of the Church
is vested in Session (The Church's Ministers and elected elders)
at the local level, Presbytery at the Wellington level and General
Assembly at the National Level. The General Assembly is the
highest of these three courts and meets once a year.
St John's also has a Council,
which consists of the leaders of various church committees, including
Finance, Communications and Christian Education, as well as Session
representatives, the Minister and Chair of the St John's Women's
Association. Much of the day to day administrative business
is carried out by the Council, including the functions of the Board
of Mangers found in some other Presbyterian Churches. A large
number of other St John's members contribute to the work of the
Church through its various committees.
St John's in the City
is part of the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand, whose
web site gives much more details about Church Government matters.
It also gives brief details on basic Church beliefs and other activities
of the national church. Here's the link to the national church

The Wellington Presbytery meets monthly and gathers for business
and fellowship at different churches throughout the region to resource
faith communities for mission. Ministers and Presbytery Elders
from St John’s in the City take seriously the responsibilities of
being part of a National church, with the need to maintain and foster
links to the wider church.
